The brief
Fieldnote’s users work in wet grass at dawn. The first version of the app asked eleven questions before you could save a bird. Most people went back to paper.
What we made
A one-thumb logging flow that saves first and asks later, offline maps that sync when you are back in range, and a design system with large targets and high-contrast states that hold up in direct sun.
What changed
Logging a sighting now takes under ten seconds. The app has a 4.9 rating and two universities use it for their field courses.
